Election of Lodge Officers
February is the month in which Newport Harbor Lodge nominates and elects its Officers for the upcoming one-year term commencing on April 1st. At our first regular Lodge meeting on February 7th, nominations for candidates will be received from the floor of the Lodge. Candidates must be members in good standing. If a member is nominated for more than one office, he or she must declare the acceptance of only one nomination, and withdraw from the other nominations. Failure to do so by the close of that meeting will, by statute, compel the candidate to accept only the first nomination.
Nominations are being accepted for the following officer positions: Exalted Ruler, Leading Knight, Loyal Knight, Lecturing Knight, Secretary, Treasurer, Tiler, and 5th Year Trustee. Please take an active interest in nominating, promoting and electing candidates who you believe to be the most worthy to hold office in our Lodge; however, at the same time, be reminded that it is against the laws of the Order to solicit support for a candidate by any public method (see Sec. 9.070(f) of the Laws of the Order).
The annual election of Officers will be held at our second Lodge meeting on February 21st. Each candidate for a contested office will be permitted to deliver a candidacy statement of five minutes or less in length prior to voting. The election will be conducted by written secret ballot, and candidates shall be elected by a simple majority vote of the members present at the meeting. Nominations will not be accepted at the election meeting unless there was no nomination for a particular office at the earlier meeting on February 7th, or if all candidates for an office have declined. No member arrears in his or her dues will be permitted to vote. It is extremely important that as many of our members as possible be able to attend the February 21st meeting and cast their vote.
The newly elected Officers will be installed on Tuesday, March 27th, and their term of office will officially commence on April 1st. Our annual Inaugural Ball for new Officers will be held on Saturday, April 14th, and all members should mark their calendars and buy tickets for this elegant gala event.
